my story
My name is Katherine Quick, I go by Katie. I was born in 1992 so you can do the math on how old I am each year. I graduated from Elgin High School in 2010 thinking I wanted to be an astronomer, boy was I wrong. I went on to study astronomy at Elgin Community College for two years before changing my major to art education. Sure, that's one heck of a switch but I grew up in the arts. As a teenager I was accepted into a program sponsored by Urban Gateways out of Chicago. Urban Gateways basically commissioned young artists for a summer while they learned under professional artists. I spent two summers working with Urban Gateways. In high school I found my passion for film photography. It would remain a hobby of mine as I studied astronomy. I'm currently studying art education at Northern Illinois University and I'm hoping to teach high school photography.
I have a passion for the arts and develop a personal relationship with each piece that I work on. With my mom unexpectedly passing this past summer (2014) I now try to work my mother's loves, passions, and personal belongings into my work. She was always an advocate for the arts, especially my own art. From a tiny toddler to this day in age my mom and I enjoyed venturing to the Art Institute-Chicago to have days filled with the greats. She developed me into the artist I am today, she still inspires me every day of my life.
In the other parts of my life, I have two wonderful brothers, a loving father who supports my every move, and a loving boyfriend who picks me up whenever I've spilled into a million pieces. I'm an avid runner and run a few races a summer (don't kid yourself, I'm no marathon runner....though that would be a dream of mine). I run races to support causes such as prostate cancer for my dad, world hunger, and just fun runs. I'm fairly easy going and love to get to know people.
This is my life.
